Dear Hiring Manager, 

I have just graduated from my 10th year at the University of Hanga Roa, third in my class. I got interested in the Online Data Research Scrubber position after learning more about the mission and vision of the Department. While we learned more about the hidden layers of the world during my courses, I never understood the meaning behind them entirely until I saw physical and digital proof of the Unknown.

Until my third year, my daily life went on the same pathway as any of my peers, a divided one between studying and building a social life. With the help of the Custom Person Suits, we even got the chance to simulate a life in the visible countries of the planet. Every time we returned, though, we all had some kind of story or sighting of something right out of the corner of our eyes.

It is probably better to start with my first encounter. The Xeno-biology classes showed many ways an animalistic unknown could blend in with the surroundings. While most of them are more accustomed to naturally formed ecosystems, me and my colleagues learned about the existence of species that prefer a human environment. An example is the colloquially known Trash Slime.

During one of my trips using the suit, I spent a month in New York, living on the streets. I used that opportunity to understand how most of these creatures can pass by so easily in a crowded city. I also used that opportunity to gather information and interviews from the actual people without homes to see how in tune they are with the Unknown. While the results were usually mixed, one of these talks gave some clues about the sightings of a Trash Slime. 

Following their indications, I followed the back alleys of a marginalized block, where it was clear that the salubrity company once in a full moon. Containers filled over-capacity with black bags, from which liquids of different colors were dripping on the pavement. Which gathered over time to form puddles of awful-smelling mixes, sticky slimes, and other substances too gross to mention. To make the whole ordeal short, it was the perfect breeding and eating ground for the Unknowns I was looking for. And, surprisingly, it only took me a few minutes to discover some offspring slimes attached under a trash container, as I learned in class. I took a few photos and videos using our Department’s specially prepared devices and provided all the info about the nest to my supervisors. You can find their thanks for my initiative in their recommendations sections, especially since the infestation almost reached an area devouring stage.

After that experience, I was a volunteer in unique positions that had the specific tasks of information gathering, starting with on-site designations and slowly becoming more interested in the online section of it. This brought me to the attention of one of our University’s sponsors, a tech company name Redacted, which owns one of the most accessed social platforms. They offered me a position of content moderator, but for sightings of the Unknown, which I accepted to do in parallel with my studies, and that it counted as a subject study for my last year’s thesis. 

From my fifth to my last year, I spent somewhere between four to six hours per day moderating over 200 items from all around the filled sphere. I have attached my correctitude score as well, so you can see how I achieved a 97% score for moderation accuracy. On the technical side, I used the internal programs provided by the company to check multiple posts at once, and at first, I only commented on or pointed out any irregularities in the content. After a few months of gathering experience, I was advanced in an editing position, where I learned how to either remove or mask an Unknows presence.

We used commercially available applications for this, like Redacted, which have attained a level at which they can easily replicate or conceal their presence. As an example, I attached two versions of a 5 seconds video. In the first, you can see two high-school girls creating a social media clip in their backyard, in Redacted. As you can see, they are giggling and doing dances, with nothing out of the ordinary. In the second version, you can see on the left side, two deformed, burned hands, grabbing the top of the fence, with the part of the face of the creature right after it. The bulging, white eyes and the rotting nose were removed entirely through digital means in a matter of a few minutes. 

I lied a bit, though, as the actual video is 10 seconds long, I also had to remove the moment of the Unknow’s attack, during which it used its fingers to pierce their brains through the ears, and then split its flesh in two. The spawns made of rotten flesh took over their body in a matter of moments and tried to pose as the girls. Unfortunately, they didn’t properly understand how social media works, and we knew immediately where, what and how about the Unknow. While the armed forces neutralized it, we also deleted its existence from the online space as well.

This experience, alongside my previous work in the field, makes me the best candidate for the position and I hope to hear from you soon. Any of the other skills I garnered can be discussed during a direct interview, as I’m sure you’d like to know if I possess any knowledge that keeps me above my peers.
